Why We Built This Reference
Printed Wheeling directories faded from regular use, yet the records behind local research remain. They are divided by role and jurisdiction. Cook and Lake offices keep separate parcel, recording, court, election, and vital systems. Indian Trails Public Library and the Wheeling Historical Society hold older material. We organize the official tools, office contacts, dated collections, and access limits so readers can choose the right custodian without mistaking one kind of record for another.
What Is Available Here
- Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
- The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
- Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
- Access rules: what Illinois law opens, what stays closed, and how a records request works when something is not online
What Remains Outside Our Role
This privately operated reference is independent of Wheeling, Cook County, Lake County, Illinois agencies, courts, and libraries. That independence creates clear limits:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Wheeling
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot guarantee that every link, coverage date, or office detail remains current
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
